Recorded between September of 2019 and February of 2020.
All songs recorded, mixed, and mastered by James Gammon of James Gammon Productions.
Note-oriety is the premier, award-winning upper voices a cappella group from James Madison University. Since 1998, the Note has prided themselves on their dedication to pursuing excellent musicianship. Above all else, Note-oriety is a sisterhood bound by a shared love of music and lifelong friendship.
Note-oriety is proud to present their ninth studio album, “Note to Self”. In many ways, the songs included on “Note to Self” represent values important to us as individuals and as an organization. Each song is a little “note to self”: a reminder to persevere, to overcome, to find the strength within.
Note-oriety strives to empower women everywhere through our music. “God Is a Woman”, “Electric Lady”, and “Fall in Line” were first selected for our repertoire to be included in our 2019 ICCA set with this exact goal in mind. While not every song on this album has explicitly empowering messaging, each song on this album inspires us to stand up for what we believe in. Each of these songs will always hold a special place in our hearts. These songs have brought us closer together through times of joy and pain, through every rehearsal and performance. We hope the deep love we hold for this music and for each other carries through as you listen.
SPECIAL THANKS
There are so many wonderful people we would like to thank for helping to make this album possible: James Gammon, for recording, mixing, and mastering the album; all of our phenomenal arrangers, including former and current Note girls who arranged for the album: Charnice Frazier, Zoe McCray, & Emma Wagner; our 2019-20 Executive Board, who worked tirelessly all year to make this album possible: Emma Wagner, Makenzie Rodriguez, Dani Rye, Emilie Bozik, Trish Hoang, Caroline Mork, and Emily Chapman; our 2018-19 Music Director Erin “Bee” Dixon, who taught 4 of the 11 songs included on this album; our brand new 2020-21 exec members Angeline Ignacio, Bella Aron, and Sadie Aram, who gracefully stepped into new and unfamiliar roles after the April 2020 album release was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic; Angeline Ignacio and Laura Wagner for creating our album cover art; Caroline Mork and Emma Wagner for the rest of the album design; our album art concept committee: Bella Aron, Isabel Johnson, Caroline Mork, and Emma Wagner; our brother group The Madison Project, especially Kareem Abdelmoneim, Gerald Jones, and Reid Wilkins for lending us their voices and expertise; the Note-oriety alumni who have paved the way for us and supported us through this process; everyone who donated to help make this album possible; and finally, our friends and family, and everyone else who has helped us along the way. We will never be able to thank you all enough for everything you have done for us. To anyone who has ever listened to our music, attended our concerts, or otherwise supported us in any way, thank you for your love and support!
